Banaras Institute of Teacher’s Education (BITE), Varanasi, celebrated National Sports Day 2026 with great enthusiasm, bringing students and teachers together for a day dedicated to sportsmanship, teamwork, fitness, discipline and healthy competition. The annual celebration was organised on August 29, marking the birth anniversary of legendary Indian hockey player Major Dhyan Chand. The programme began with floral tributes to Major Dhyan Chand in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Indian hockey and Indian sports. Following the tribute ceremony, the Principal officially declared the sports meet open, setting the stage for a series of exciting sporting and recreational competitions. Wide Range of Sports Activities The National Sports Day celebration at BITE Varanasi featured a diverse range of activities designed to encourage student participation and promote physical fitness. Students enthusiastically participated in sprint races, relay races, book balancing, Jalebi Race, Musical Chair, Tug of War and Kabaddi. The competitions witnessed energetic participation, with students demonstrating determination, coordination, teamwork and a healthy competitive spirit. Participants displayed resilience and determination, making the celebration about much more than medals and rankings. The closing ceremony recognised both the winners and participants for their efforts and contribution to the success of the event. Promoting Holistic Student Development Events such as National Sports Day at BITE Varanasi play an important role in promoting holistic student development. Participation in sports helps students build confidence, discipline, leadership, teamwork, physical fitness and a positive competitive spirit. Through such initiatives, BITE continues to provide students with opportunities to learn and grow beyond the classroom.
