Sampurnanand Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya (SSVV), located in Varanasi, is one of the oldest Sanskrit universities in India — established in 1791 originally as Sanskrit College and elevated to a university in 1958. The university is named after Dr. Sampurnanand, former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and a notable Sanskrit scholar.
SSVV is UGC-recognised under Sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956 — meaning degrees issued by SSVV are eligible for central-government grant assistance and accepted across India for higher studies, government recruitment, and private-sector employment.
The university specialises in Sanskrit-language and traditional-Hindu textual disciplines: Vyakarana (grammar), Sahitya (literature), Darshan (philosophy), Veda, Mimamsa, Jyotish (astrology), Dharmashastra, Ayurveda, and more. Programmes include Shastri (UG Sanskrit), Acharya (PG Sanskrit), B.Ed in Sanskrit, and Ph.D. specialisations.
For prospective Sanskrit students and researchers, SSVV is one of the most established institutions in India alongside Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan (Delhi) and Karnataka Sanskrit University.
Many Sanskrit graduates from SSVV pursue B.Ed as the teaching-credentialing pathway — CBSE / state-board / KVS schools require B.Ed for permanent teaching posts. BITE Varanasi (MGKVP-affiliated, NCTE-approved B.Ed since 2003) accepts SSVV graduates:
BITE is not SSVV-affiliated. The B.Ed pathway is across MGKVP affiliation; the degree you graduate with is an MGKVP B.Ed (NCTE-recognised, valid for CTET, UPTET, BSTET, CBSE / state-board / KVS recruitment).
