Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University (VBSPU), also commonly called simply Purvanchal University, is a state university located in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh. It was established by the Government of Uttar Pradesh to serve higher education needs in the Purvanchal (eastern) region of the state.
VBSPU is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956 — making VBSPU degrees eligible for central-government grant assistance and accepted across India for higher studies, central / state government recruitment, and private-sector employment.
The university operates through a network of 700+ permanently affiliated colleges across the Purvanchal districts — Jaunpur, Azamgarh, Ghazipur, Mau, Ballia, parts of Mirzapur, and parts of Sonbhadra.
