BITE Varanasi (MGKVP-affiliated, NCTE-recognised since 2003) sits in the UP-TET catchment. Our B.Ed + D.El.Ed graduates are eligible for UP-TET in their final year as "appearing" candidates — saving a full year vs waiting for degree completion. Talk to admissions about the 2026-27 cohort.
UP-TET (Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test) is the state-level eligibility test for becoming a teacher in UP Basic Education Board schools. It is conducted by UPBEB (Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Board), Prayagraj. UP-TET is THE eligibility certificate for UP state primary and upper-primary teacher recruitment — every UP government school teacher must have either UP-TET or CTET. UPBEB also uses UP-TET as the pre-requisite for Super-TET (the actual UP Assistant Teacher recruitment exam).
CTET is conducted by CBSE (Central) and accepted across all central + most state schools nationally. UP-TET is conducted by UPBEB (UP State) and is REQUIRED for UP Basic Education Board recruitment specifically — though UPBEB also accepts CTET as a valid alternative in most cases. If you plan to teach in UP government schools, take BOTH CTET and UP-TET to maximise eligibility surface. If you plan to teach in central schools (KVS / NVS / EMRS), CTET alone is sufficient. Full comparison on our /ctet-vs-uptet-vs-super-tet page.
Per UPBEB notifications, UP-TET is intended to be conducted annually — but the actual frequency has varied due to administrative challenges (notably the 2021 paper leak incident which cancelled that cycle). Always verify the current cycle dates on upbasiceduboard.gov.in. Subscribe to email alerts on the portal to get the first notification when a new cycle opens.
Paper I (Primary, Classes I-V): Senior Secondary (10+2) with at least 50% (45% for SC/ST/OBC-NCL per UP-state rules) AND a 2-year D.El.Ed or B.El.Ed — passed or final-year appearing. Paper II (Upper Primary, Classes VI-VIII): Graduation with at least 50% (45% reserved) AND a 1- or 2-year B.Ed from an NCTE-recognised institution. Same as CTET eligibility — UPBEB follows the same NCTE 2014 framework.
YES. UPBEB changed UP-TET validity from 5 years to LIFETIME in 2021, aligned with the CBSE CTET lifetime-validity change. The rule applies retrospectively to earlier UP-TET certificates. You do not need to re-take UP-TET to retain eligibility.
UP-TET is the ELIGIBILITY test (similar to CTET) — passing UP-TET makes you eligible to apply for UP Basic Education Board recruitment. Super-TET is the RECRUITMENT test conducted by UPBEB for actual UP Assistant Teacher hiring. You CANNOT take Super-TET without first having passed UP-TET (or CTET, accepted as alternate). Think of it as: UP-TET = entrance ticket, Super-TET = the recruitment exam where you compete for a specific job. Full pathway on our /super-tet-2026 page.
Same structure as CTET. 150 multiple-choice questions, 150 marks, 2.5 hours, Computer-Based Test (CBT). No negative marking. Paper I has 5 sections × 30 marks each (Child Development & Pedagogy, Language I, Language II, Math, EVS). Paper II has 4 sections — three the same as Paper I, plus Math+Science OR Social Studies as the 60-mark choice section. Subject content aligned to NCERT.
The official UP-TET syllabus is published in the UPBEB Information Bulletin at the start of each cycle. The syllabus tracks the CTET pattern closely — our /ctet-syllabus-2026 page covers the same content depth and is fully applicable to UP-TET preparation. UPBEB sometimes adds a UP-specific content layer (UP geography, UP history sub-topics) in the Social Studies section of Paper II — verify the latest official bulletin.
BITE's B.Ed and D.El.Ed curricula directly cover the UP-TET syllabus areas — Child Development & Pedagogy, methodology, subject-pedagogy for Math/Science/Social Studies. Many BITE B.Ed second-year students attempt UP-TET in their final year as appearing candidates. Our 5,000+ alumni network includes UP-TET-qualified teachers across UP Basic Education Board, KVS UP region, and CBSE/ICSE schools in UP and adjacent states.
UPBEB accepts CTET as a valid eligibility alternative to UP-TET in most recruitment cycles — but the exact recognition varies per Super-TET notification. To maximise your eligibility surface and avoid being blocked by a future rule change, take BOTH CTET and UP-TET. Both have lifetime validity since 2021; effort is one-time.
