BIHAR TEACHER RECRUITMENT 2026 · BPSC शिक्षक भर्ती
BPSC TRE(Teacher Recruitment Examination) is the actual recruitment exam conducted by Bihar Public Service Commission for Bihar government school teacher posts. Pre-requisite: BTET or CTET cleared + B.Ed/D.El.Ed. Pay scale ₹35,400+ (Pay Level 6 per 7th CPC) for primary; ₹44,900+ (Level 7) for middle/secondary. Recent cycles have hired 200,000+ teachers — one of India's most active state recruitment pipelines.
BPSC TRE selects across 4 cadres. Pay scale per 7th CPC + Bihar-state DA + HRA. All come with permanent govt service, full pension, and annual increments.

Watch bpsc.bihar.gov.in for the latest cycle notification. Notifications announce vacancy distribution by school cadre (Primary / Middle / Secondary / Higher Secondary) and subject.
Must hold BTET OR CTET (Paper I for Class 1-5, Paper II for Class 6-8 cadres) + qualifying degree (D.El.Ed for primary, B.Ed for middle / secondary). Age limit + Bihar domicile / nationality criteria apply.
Application via the BPSC online portal. Fees: ~₹750 for General/EWS/OBC and ₹200 for SC/ST/PwD per recent cycles (verify with the current notification).
CBT with multiple sections: language qualifying (Hindi/English/Urdu/Bangla) + GS + subject paper + pedagogy. Specific structure varies by cadre — Primary CBT differs from Higher Secondary CBT.
BPSC publishes merit lists by category, district, and subject. Selected candidates undergo document verification — originals of BTET/CTET, qualifying degree, category certificate, Bihar domicile.
Selected candidates posted to Bihar govt schools by merit + preference. First posting typically in rural Bihar; transfers possible after stipulated service. Pay scale starts immediately per 7th CPC Bihar-state matrix.
Bihar domicile policy for BPSC TRE has been politically contested and varied across cycles. Some cycles allowed non-domicile applicants under restricted quotas; others enforced strict Bihar domicile. Always read the current cycle's notification carefully — the eligibility rules can shift cycle-to-cycle. For Eastern UP / non-Bihar applicants, CTET-based central recruitment (KVS / NVS / EMRS) and UP Super-TET are the safer parallel paths.
BITE Varanasi is the closest NCTE-recognised B.Ed + D.El.Ed college for west-Bihar students (Buxar / Ara / Sasaram / Bhabhua). Many of our Bihar alumni cleared TRE-1 / TRE-2 / TRE-3 and now teach across Bihar government schools. Apply for the 2026-27 B.Ed or D.El.Ed cohort to start your BPSC TRE pathway.
BTET (Bihar Teacher Eligibility Test) is the ELIGIBILITY test conducted by BSEB Patna — it certifies you as eligible to apply for teaching jobs in Bihar. BPSC TRE (Teacher Recruitment Examination) is the actual RECRUITMENT exam conducted by Bihar Public Service Commission — it selects candidates for specific Bihar government teaching posts. You CANNOT apply for BPSC TRE without holding BTET or CTET. Think of it as: BTET = entrance ticket. BPSC TRE = the actual job competition.
BPSC TRE-1 was conducted in August 2023, TRE-2 in December 2023, and TRE-3 in 2024 (notable controversy — partial cancellation + re-conducting). These cycles together filled approximately 200,000+ Bihar government teaching posts. Subsequent cycles depend on Bihar government vacancy notifications. Always verify the current cycle status on bpsc.bihar.gov.in.
Per past cycle notifications: (1) BTET OR CTET cleared (lifetime-valid since 2021); (2) Qualifying degree appropriate to the cadre — D.El.Ed for Primary (Class 1-5), B.Ed for Middle/Secondary (Class 6-10), PG + B.Ed for Higher Secondary (Class 11-12); (3) Age limit: 21-40 with category relaxations per Bihar-state rules; (4) Bihar domicile required for state-quota seats. Each cycle has its own exact rules — read the current notification carefully.
Multi-paper CBT format. Common structure: (1) Language qualifying paper — Hindi/English/Urdu/Bangla; (2) General Studies + Reasoning; (3) Subject-specific paper (varies by cadre — Math, Science, SST for Class 6-10; specific subject for Class 11-12); (4) Pedagogy. Exact marks distribution and number of papers vary per cycle — current notification is the source of truth. Negative marking has been variable across cycles.
Cadre-wise: Sahayak Adhyapak Class 1-5 — ₹35,400+ Pay Level 6 per 7th CPC + Bihar DA + HRA (in-hand ~₹40-45k starting). Madhyamik Shikshak Class 6-10 — ₹44,900+ Pay Level 7 (in-hand ~₹52-58k). Uchchatar Madhyamik Class 11-12 — ₹47,600+ Pay Level 8 (in-hand ~₹56-62k). All come with permanent govt service, full pension benefits, and annual increments.
YES in most BPSC TRE cycles to date — BPSC has accepted CTET as a valid alternative to BTET. The exact recognition is set per cycle notification, so verify before applying. To de-risk against future rule changes, hold BOTH CTET and BTET. Both have lifetime validity since 2021; the marginal effort is small.
Bihar domicile is required for state-quota seats (the majority of posts). Some specific cycles have allowed non-domicile applicants under restricted quotas. The 2023-24 cycles relaxed domicile partially. Always verify the current cycle's domicile policy — it has been politically contested. For Eastern UP / outstation candidates who don't hold Bihar domicile, CTET-based central recruitment (KVS / NVS / EMRS) and UP recruitment (Super-TET) are the safer parallel paths.
Recent cycles ran approximately 6-9 months from notification to posting allocation: notification → application window (1 month) → CBT (1-2 months later) → result + merit list (1-2 months) → document verification + posting (2-3 months). Faster than UP's Super-TET cycle on average. Bihar govt has been actively pushing teacher recruitment to meet vacancy targets.
BITE Varanasi is the nearest NCTE-recognised B.Ed + D.El.Ed college for west-Bihar students (Buxar 120 km, Bhabhua 125 km, Sasaram 140 km, Ara 210 km). Our curricula cover the pedagogy + subject-pedagogy areas tested in BPSC TRE's Paper III/IV. Many of our Bihar alumni cleared TRE-1 / TRE-2 / TRE-3 cycles and now teach across Bihar government schools. For Bihar applicants, attempt BTET in your B.Ed final year as "appearing" candidate, then sit for BPSC TRE in the year after graduation.
BPSC TRE has run multiple cycles in quick succession (3 cycles in 18 months during 2023-24). The frequency is higher than UP's Super-TET. Persistence pays: most successful Bihar govt-teacher candidates clear in their 2nd or 3rd attempt. Parallel paths to consider: (1) UP Super-TET — if you also hold UP domicile or accept Bihar-UP cross-border; (2) Central recruitment via CTET — KVS / NVS / EMRS; (3) Other state recruitments (MP, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand); (4) CBSE / ICSE private school placement as bridge income.
