Bihar Teacher Recruitment 2026 — BPSC TRE Guide

BTET (Bihar Teacher Eligibility Test) is the ELIGIBILITY test conducted by BSEB Patna — it certifies you as eligible to apply for teaching jobs in Bihar. BPSC TRE (Teacher Recruitment Examination) is the actual RECRUITMENT exam conducted by Bihar Public Service Commission — it selects candidates for specific Bihar government teaching posts. You CANNOT apply for BPSC TRE without holding BTET or CTET. Think of it as: BTET = entrance ticket. BPSC TRE = the actual job competition.

BPSC TRE-1 was conducted in August 2023, TRE-2 in December 2023, and TRE-3 in 2024 (notable controversy — partial cancellation + re-conducting). These cycles together filled approximately 200,000+ Bihar government teaching posts. Subsequent cycles depend on Bihar government vacancy notifications. Always verify the current cycle status on bpsc.bihar.gov.in.

Per past cycle notifications: (1) BTET OR CTET cleared (lifetime-valid since 2021); (2) Qualifying degree appropriate to the cadre — D.El.Ed for Primary (Class 1-5), B.Ed for Middle/Secondary (Class 6-10), PG + B.Ed for Higher Secondary (Class 11-12); (3) Age limit: 21-40 with category relaxations per Bihar-state rules; (4) Bihar domicile required for state-quota seats. Each cycle has its own exact rules — read the current notification carefully.

Multi-paper CBT format. Cadre-wise: Sahayak Adhyapak Class 1-5 — ₹35,400+ Pay Level 6 per 7th CPC + Bihar DA + HRA (in-hand ~₹40-45k starting). Madhyamik Shikshak Class 6-10 — ₹44,900+ Pay Level 7 (in-hand ~₹52-58k). Uchchatar Madhyamik Class 11-12 — ₹47,600+ Pay Level 8 (in-hand ~₹56-62k). All come with permanent govt service, full pension benefits, and annual increments.

YES in most BPSC TRE cycles to date — BPSC has accepted CTET as a valid alternative to BTET. The exact recognition is set per cycle notification, so verify before applying. To de-risk against future rule changes, hold BOTH CTET and BTET. Both have lifetime validity since 2021; the marginal effort is small.

Bihar domicile is required for state-quota seats (the majority of posts). Some specific cycles have allowed non-domicile applicants under restricted quotas. The 2023-24 cycles relaxed domicile partially. Always verify the current cycle's domicile policy — it has been politically contested.
