BTET 2026 · बिहार शिक्षक पात्रता परीक्षा
The Bihar Teacher Eligibility Test (BTET) is the gateway to Bihar government school teacher recruitment. Required pre-requisite (alongside CTET) for BPSC TRE (Bihar Public Service Commission Teacher Recruitment). Two papers — Paper I (Primary, D.El.Ed pathway) and Paper II (Upper Primary, B.Ed pathway). Conducted by BSEB Patna. Lifetime-valid certificate.
You can attempt one paper or both. Paper I qualifies you for Bihar Primary Teacher (Class 1-5) recruitment; Paper II for Upper-Primary (Class 6-8). Same structure as CTET and UP-TET — 150 questions / 150 marks / 2.5 hours each paper.

BTET (Bihar Teacher Eligibility Test) is the state-level eligibility test for becoming a teacher in Bihar government primary and upper-primary schools. It is conducted by the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB), Patna. BTET is the Bihar equivalent of UP-TET — it certifies your eligibility to apply for actual teacher recruitment exams (BPSC TRE) conducted separately by Bihar Public Service Commission.
BTET is the ELIGIBILITY test (similar to CTET / UP-TET) — passing BTET certifies you as eligible. BPSC TRE (Teacher Recruitment Examination) is the actual RECRUITMENT exam conducted by Bihar Public Service Commission — it selects candidates for specific Bihar government teaching posts. You CANNOT take BPSC TRE without first holding BTET (or CTET, accepted as alternate). Think of it as: BTET = entrance ticket, BPSC TRE = the actual job-selection exam.
BTET frequency varies based on Bihar government recruitment policy. Past cycles were held in 2017 and 2023. There can be multi-year gaps. Always verify the current cycle status on bsebbihar.in. Subscribe to BSEB email alerts on the portal to get the first notification when a new cycle opens.
Paper I (Primary, Classes I-V): Senior Secondary (10+2) with at least 50% (45% for SC/ST/OBC-NCL per Bihar-state rules) AND a 2-year D.El.Ed or B.El.Ed — passed or final-year appearing. Paper II (Upper Primary, Classes VI-VIII): Graduation with at least 50% (45% reserved) AND a 1- or 2-year B.Ed from an NCTE-recognised institution. Same framework as CTET — BSEB follows NCTE 2014 norms.
Bihar Public Service Commission accepts CTET as a valid alternative to BTET for most TRE recruitment cycles. However, the exact recognition is set per TRE notification — read each cycle's eligibility section carefully. To maximise eligibility surface, hold BOTH BTET and CTET. Both have lifetime validity since 2021; the marginal effort is small.
Same structure as CTET. 150 multiple-choice questions, 150 marks, 2.5 hours per paper. Paper I has 5 sections × 30 marks (Child Development & Pedagogy, Language I, Language II, Math, EVS). Paper II has 4 sections — three the same as Paper I, plus Math+Science OR Social Studies as the 60-mark choice section. NCERT-aligned content. Bihar-specific subjects (Bihar geography / history) may appear in the Social Studies section.
YES, and many Bihar candidates do. CTET runs twice a year (Jan/Feb + Jul/Aug) on a national CBSE schedule. BTET runs whenever BSEB notifies a cycle. The two are independent exams — clearing one does not preclude attempting the other. Holding both maximises your job-eligibility footprint across central recruitment (KVS / NVS / EMRS, via CTET) and Bihar state recruitment (BPSC TRE, via BTET or CTET).
BTET certificate is valid for LIFETIME, aligned with the national TET rule change in 2021. Earlier BTET certificates (e.g., BTET 2017) also benefit retrospectively from the lifetime-validity rule per BSEB notification.
BITE Varanasi is the nearest NCTE-recognised B.Ed and D.El.Ed college for Bihar students in the Buxar / Ara / Sasaram / Bhabhua belt (distances: Buxar 120 km, Bhabhua 125 km, Sasaram 140 km, Ara 210 km). Our curricula directly cover the BTET syllabus areas — Child Development & Pedagogy, methodology, subject-pedagogy. NH-2, GT Road, and Mughalsarai-Patna rail corridor make weekly commuting + hostel both viable. Many BITE alumni from Bihar cleared BTET 2017 / 2023 cycles and now teach across Bihar government schools.
Bihar Government Assistant Teacher (Sahayak Adhyapak) Class 1-5 (Pay Level 6 — ₹35,400+ per 7th CPC); Madhyamik Shikshak Class 6-8 (Pay Level 7); Senior Secondary teaching (Pay Level 7-8). All come with Bihar government permanent service, full pension, and state DA + HRA. Pay levels parallel UP government teacher cadres.
